Hi my name is Raymond Chang, I 'm from Singapore also known as the Lion City, Garden City or The Little Red dot.
Singapore is an island nation, both a city and a country, located just off the southern tip of Malaysia in Southeast Asia.
Singapore or Singapura” in Malay is derived from the Malay words “Singa” for Lion and “Pura” for city.
The “Garden city” vision was introduced by Founding Father Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on 11 May 1967 to transform Singapore into a city with abundant lush greenery and a clean environment in order to make life more pleasant for the people. It was also envisaged that the presence of ample greenery in an environment clean of litter would signify that Singapore was a well-organised city and hence a good destination for tourists and foreign investments.]
"Little red dot" or "The Red Dot" is a nickname often used in the media, and in casual conversation, as a reference to Singapore. It refers to how our nation is depicted on many maps of the world and of Asia as a red dot.
Singapore celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2015 , the 50th anniversary of its independence, with the term "SG50" depicted inside a red dot.
SG50 represents the little red dot that we’ve come to know as home. The logo celebrates the Singaporean spirit signifying that our dreams are not limited by the physical size of our island nation.
The Merlion with the head of a lion and the body of a fish is an icon and symbol of Singapore. The body of the Merlion signifies that Singapore is a port city. The head of the Merlion is a reference to the tale of a Prince from Palembang, Sang Nila Utama who came across a lion when he first stepped on the island of Temasek and subsequently renaming the Island of Singapura lion City..
